Deborah Carey, DVM
Dr. Carey was 1 of 4 children born to a family doctor and a school teacher. Her relationship with animals started at an early age, only days old when the farm horse was found nuzzling her in her crib through an open bedroom window.
Dr. Carey grew up in the Seattle Washington area and always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, visiting WST School of Veterinary Medicine for her 14th birthday. She attended undergraduate and graduate school at Arizona State University (Go Devils!). Dr. Carey was awarded her B.S. and M.S. in Biology. She became certified in Medical Technology with a specialty in Microbiology by the Association of Clinical Pathologists.
Dr. Carey graduated from Washington State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1989 and has practiced her entire career in Arizona. Her last year of school, when was awarded a special externship in Kentucky, being the last WSU veterinary student to work with the famous Triple Crown winner Secretariat.
In the last 5 years, Dr. Carey has incorporated acupuncture into her practice of pain management, having a special interest in managing older animal issues like osteoarthritis.
Dr. Carey belongs to the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management. She is in the process of obtaining specialty training in pain management and hopes to be boarded as a specialist Pain Practitioner next year.
